Affiliate programs are an internet-based marketing program in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each customer brought about by the affiliate’s own marketing efforts. An affiliate can be either an individual or a business. Affiliates receive a commission on sales, traffic or clicks generated by their own marketing efforts. Common methods of promotion include blogging, social media sharing, creating content with backlinks to the merchant’s website, search engine optimization (SEO), and creating webpages or videos to advertise the merchant’s product or service.
