IMINENTE by MNTH, released 08 April 20221. Pedra Sobre Pedra ft. Hanna Olivegren2. Demanda E Despejo3. Pedra Sobre Pedra (Thavius Beck Remix)4. Demanda E Despejo (Bartosz Weber Remix)5. Pedra Sobre Pedra (Thavius Beck Remix - Reversed)Following the release of his thrilling self-titled album in April last year, São Paolo-based producer/creator MNTH, real name Luciano Valério, returns with Iminente EP, a five track collection of sparse rhythmic pulses and spiralling, cosmic synth design, co-produced by Paulo Dandrea, forthcoming this April 2022 on Mais Um. Featuring vocals by Hanna Olivegren (one half of Baltimore-based drone-rock minimalists, Zomes) and remixes by Saul Williams & Nine Inch Nails-collaborator, Thavius Beck and Polish producer, Bartosz Weber, Iminente EP sees MNTH (pronounced Mantega - Portuguese for ‘butter’), expand on his unique collision of cyclical, cut & paste electronics and layered improvisation ahead of the release of his latest full-length due later this year, featuring composer/drummer M.Takara (Pharoah Sanders, Rob Mazurek, Damo Suzuki) & Carla Boregas (Rakta, Fronte Violeta, Linha D'Água). Originally recorded in August 2020 for a Brazilian documentary film, MNTH’s Pedra Sobre Pedra (named after the film) & Demanda E Despejo exist in both vivid yet unsettling soundtrack territory. Directed by cult art/skate videographer, Murilo Romão, Pedra Sobre Pedra (Brick By Brick) is based around a group of São Paolo’s skaters, who campaigned to build a memorial park to preserve the history of downtown district, Vale do Anhangabaú (Anhangabaú Valley), and save it from a decades-long neighborhood regeneration program, supported by São Paulo local authority. An area where many of the city’s homeless community reside and renowned spot for local skaters, Vale do Anhangabaú is named after the Anhangabaú River, a ferrous and acidic waterway which runs through the valley that indigenous people considered cursed and believed caused physical and spiritual illnesses - in Tupi, it means "evil spirit water". The viaduct, which runs above it, has often been used for suicides. “Iminente is this idea of something about to become real, concretized. You don’t know what, but something is going to happen soon and you can’t stop it, like tragedy or death. Vale do Anhangabaú is an area everybody knows something strange can happen anytime. It has this energy.” MNTH (Luciano Valério) Olivegren’s lyricless vocalizations course round Aurelia Smith-like modular synths and Rhythm & Sound dub tremors on the opening track, later reversioned then reversed by Big Dada label affiliate, Thavius Beck in an eerie and atmospheric trip-hop setting. Rogério Martins from São Paulo post rock outfit, Hurtmold features on snare & congas on Demanda E Despejo (Ask and Be Evicted), its piercing synth riffs at times, referencing Caribbean steel pan melodies, unravel in real time around wildly energising syncopated drums, before remixer Bartosz Weber of eminent Polish group, Baaba and Mitch & Mitch, takes it on a 1980s techno, 8-bit, Mario Bros detour. As co-founder of influential label, Desmonta, MNTH has been a pivotal figure in Brazil’s underground scene for the best part of two decades. Having signed seminal albums by deconstructive Candomblê-punk trio, Metá Metá, and provide a regular home for Mauricio Takara and Kiko Dinucci’s frequent and varied output over the years, Valério has organised shows across Brazil and South America, for Desmonta artists and international underground artists ranging from Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley, The Ex, Jozef Van Wissen, Stephen O’Malley, Lungfish´s Daniel Higgs and Fugazi’s Joe Lally. Described by Music Is My Sanctuary as a “bristling blend of dub techno, jazz, Afro-Brazilian percussion and punk, bursting out of the São Paolo underground", MNTH’s self-titled 2020 album received support from Bandcamp Weekly, BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction & Radio Primavera Sound.

One More RiverLeading trumpeter and composer, Mark Kavuma, launches his new label,Banger Factory Records with the release of Arashi No Ato. “It was something I wrote just before the pandemic and has somewhat become the theme on gigs. Originally it was just "after the storm" but I really loved how itsounds in Japanese,” explains Kavuma. “I thought it to be a fitting title for the album with everything that has been going on over the last year and a half.”Arashi No Ato was recorded with The Banger Factory, a band that has developed from a weekly residency in Brixton’s POW, to become one of the most engaging ensembles in the UK with a truly unique and unmistakable sound. Mark infuses this indelible musical movement with the energy, attitude and swagger of a new generation of creators. He has a unique and distinctive trumpet sound. His lyricism, soulful tone and grace of technique spread infectious joy and mutual excitement among audiences and fellow musicians alike. His music is full of energy, vibe, blues and rhythm. Hints of gospel, soul and spiritual jazz can also be traced within his compositions. With this groovy music he may just bring jazz back to the dance floor."There is an emphasis on exploring original material and the album features some of the most gifted and masterful musicians on the scene today,” says Kavuma. “What is more, the band brings together and unifies the local London jazz scene. Spreading love and good vibes.

Written In Stone8. Intelligence9. Relationship10. Chimichunga11. Dust & Decay12. Drugs, Guns & Economics Remix (digital bonus)Library music is the crate digger’s manna; music that has never been commercially released, hence much harder to come across, providing obscure sample material for generations of producers. Any respectable digger will recognise the Boosey & Hawkes Recorded Music Library sleeves immediately. However, the Cavendish Music archive, of which they are part, remains one of the least chartered non-commercial music catalogues among producers. This is no longer the case, thanks to veteran beatsmiths Jonny Cuba (Dynamic Syncopation) and Ollie Teeba (The Herbaliser), and their army of emcees: Audessey, Oxygen, UGeorge, Supastition, Emskee & Eddie Meeks. We bring you My Boosey Weighs A Tonne, an album sampled wholly from the Cavendish archive. This makes a perfect follow up to 2011’s Soundsational LP on Ubiquity, for which Soundsci gained the blessing of Mike James Kirkland to sample his rich back catalogue.Cavendish and Soundsci are two forces leading the way in building relationships between the sampler and the sampled. In 2014 Cavendish Music welcomed a select group of five producers into their vinyl archive. SoundSci’s Jonny Cuba was one of the lucky few, and Soundsci were one of 25 artists who sampled and remixed the material for WhoSampled’s first ‘Samplethon’. Hunger Pains, which features on this release, was a standout track on the resulting 10”, which sold out in a week. The soundtrack origin of the source material lends the tracks a cinematic nature throughout which the emcees complement perfectly, tackling similarly epic subject matter on tracks like ‘Drugs, Guns & Economics’, ‘Written In Stone’ and ‘Ole Saying Goes’, while the narrative- style vocal on ‘Thaddeus Browne’ is a smart counterpart to the noir-soaked instrumental.2NX is the label for projects of interest from the Cavendish Music library catalogue. Previous projects include WhoSampled Present: Digging In The Vaults.

Friendship, Love and War (Valinor's Canon)A rider, burdened by a past which grows like a tumor inside of him, struggles against himself and loses - he chooses the rope. During what would be his last breath, he is instead given a second chance by forces beyond his comprehension, under the condition that he carries out a quest he thinks impossible. The rider flees, frightened of his own potential for greatness or for failure - but no matter how far he rides, destiny is not so easily dissuaded...For better or worse, whether he wishes it or not, no man on this earth rides alone. We are all of us bound together, heart to heart and soul to soul -- all of us bit players in stories bigger than we know - stories we have no hand in writing. This is one of those stories - a story of friendship, love and war.“Listening to this album is a thrilling experience not unlike taking in an enormous painting – at first you're content to admire it from a distance, but eventually you find yourself unconsciously drifting closer to admire the details.” - METAL INJECTION (https://metalinjection.net/editorials/choice-cuts/undeaths-alexander-jones-discusses-the-perfect-fall-black-metal-album-of-2022)“…this is a record possessed of nothing short of gallantry. Each composition is concise and compelling.” - TOILET OV HELL (https://toiletovhell.com/mini-reviews-from-around-the-bowl-1-12-23/)“…a sterling example of what you can do when you honor an existing form but commit to pushing its boundaries. Few artists working under the broad umbrella of raw black metal have ever made a better album.” - BANDCAMP (https://daily.bandcamp.com/best-metal/the-best-metal-on-bandcamp-september-2022)

mojosoul by Gwyn Ashton, released 14 November 20221. By Your Side2. Vanish Into Thin Air3. No More4. Take Your Medication5. Allergic To Love6. Yesterday's Me (Cool, Cool Water)7. The Blues Should Take A Holiday8. The Ballad of Gwyn Ashton9. 12,000 Miles From Home10. The Perfect Day To Sing The BluesGwyn Ashton announces mojosoul, the 10th album of his career, set for a November 14 release on Fab Tone Records, 50 years to the day that he started playing guitar. The UK-based musician, former Virgin Records France artist and South Australian Music Hall of Fame inductee has toured in over 30 countries. He’s a storyteller who shifts from the personal to the acerbic and belatedly to the introspective, while his acoustic guitar playing is his best ever, illuminating the light and shade of his songs.“This is my most personal album so far,” says Ashton. “It’s a song-driven, partly autobiographical album with occasional social commentary that has always been part of the best blues songs down the years.”He’s at his most succinct and personal on the autobiographical “The Ballad of Gwyn Ashton”: “At 12 years old I shared my bed with my new friend, my fingers bled, I never quit, I just kept playing hard.” Armed with a 1930 National steel guitar, a Martin acoustic, three 12-string acoustic guitars and an old 60s electric Harmony H-75 for the only electric track on the album, Ashton provides the perfect accompaniment to well-crafted songs occasionally beefed up by his foot percussion including kick, snare, hi hats, tambourine, and blues harp.mojosoul is Gwyn Ashton’s versatile take on the blues, a musical journey that stretches the genre from acoustic folk to ragtime, swampy supercharged boogie and delta blues. No note is wasted and each tone provides subtle counterpoint to his brusque blues vocal. He surprises us with the evocative “Yesterday’s Me (Cool, Cool Water)”, one of two Gary Allen co-writes on the album. Inspired by former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor with whom he toured, much like the closing “The Perfect Day To Sing The Blues”, it’s full of feel and delicate restraint.Ashton is at his best on “12,000 Miles From Home”, a very catchy boogie about touring through the Australian bush fires, straight into the 2020 pandemic, locking him down in South Australia for an extended stay. He switches to a pulsating rhythm amplified by his acerbic lyrics on the political “No More” and then explores a funky feel to match Garry Allen’s withering lyrics on the second co-write, “Take Your Medication”.Wisely, Ashton doesn’t preach but persuasively draws on his own life experiences to paint a believable narrative. The Son House-inspired “By Your Side” illustrates the way he uses traditional gospel and blues influences in a contemporary setting on an aspirational song. He’s expansive on “Vanish Into Thin Air” and glances at his riff-driven past on acoustic 12-string track “Allergic To Love”. This 10-song set offers plenty of contrast, subtle dynamics and, as his label name suggests, plenty of sumptuous tone to fill his mojosoul canvas.
